I plan to try and find a post-grad internship in the City.įive Reasons I Think Everyone Should Visit New York: When the trip ended, I came to realize that I would love to live in New York City for a little while. There are police everywhere and the city is crowded with so many people that even when I was alone, I wouldn’t really feel alone. I felt safer in Times Square than I do walking Lake Hollingsworth at night.

I was so afraid of being in the City because of everything I had heard or seen on TV or in movies. Taxi rides aside, the strangest thing to me was how safe I felt while in New York.

I never thought I would be so afraid in a taxi! The driver had the worst road rage I had ever seen, but I guess aggressive driving is the best way to get around the New York City traffic. The first scary experience was the taxi ride to the hotel.

Two of my friends and I also had the chance to take photos while seated on the famous orange couch- the very same one that the members of the cast would lounge on! We were all super fans of the show, and the pop-up was temporary, so this was another opportune moment that just happened to take place in the City during the same month we were visiting. We also went to the pop-up shop “Central Perk,” a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the 90s television sitcom “Friends.” While there, actor James Michael Tyler who played Gunther on the show made an appearance, and he even greeted us. You are definitely paying for the tourist factor. Also - for those wondering - don’t expect it to be the best ice skating experience the ice is very beaten up and the rental skates aren’t the best quality. This was a really amazing experience, though upon arrival, I realized the rink looks a lot bigger in movies and on TV. One night, we decided we wanted to go ice skating at Rockefeller Center. When we went, we happened upon a street performer singing “Imagine.” It was a perfectly serendipitous way to pay respects to such an amazing musician. One place that I really wanted to visit was the John Lennon Memorial in Strawberry Fields at Central Park. A few of my favorites were Caffé Bene, John’s Pizzeria, Angelo’s Pizza, Ellen’s Stardust Dinner and Serendipity 3. We made sure we ate at the best restaurants as well. Idina Menzel signing autographs after her Broadway show “If/Then.” We saw “If/Then” on Broadway and also met its cast, which included singer and actress Idina Menzel.

My favorite part of my trip was the time we spent exploring the city on our own, walking mainly through Times Square in Midtown, Manhattan. Alex Ortiz, we visited the The National September 11 Memorial & Museum, Facebook’s NY Office, International Center of Photography Museum, Museum of the Moving Image, the Late Show with David Letterman, and we attended a Broadway play, where we got to meet the cast after the show. On our days with communication professor Dr. The upside to being so active in New York is that it is not smoldering hot outside all the time, like it is in Florida. I know now why they say New York is a healthy city I have never walked so much in my entire life. I wear a Fitbit and each day I was averaging 30,000 steps in a day. It was confusing during the first couple of days, and we stuck to Times Square area mainly because we were comfortable with taking the train routes from there. The hardest part about the trip was adjusting to the transportation system namely, the Subway. The moment I stepped off the plane and onto a ramp that connected to the airport, the cool air hit me right in the face! Kenzie holding a pigeon at Washington Square Park. When we landed, the first thing I noticed was the temperature at the time. Not only did I get to familiarize myself with a different American culture, but best of all, I did it with my best friends. My fall 2014 Junior Journey trip to New York City currently ranks as one of the best experiences of my life.
